Windows freezes on boot with secondary HDD plugged in! (Has to do with Windows 7 Backup)?

07 Jun

First, some back story on my problem:

I tried using Windows 7 backup. I used the default settings and backed it up onto my D: drive. It failed at about 70%. Tried again. Still failed.
I ran out of time, so I decided to just forget it. I deleted the incomplete backup files (Some C: backup file and MediaID.bin). When I came home and turned on my computer, POST took longer than usual and I noticed it didn’t find my SATA 2 drive, which is my D: drive. My computer ended up freezing while booting windows. After some trial and error, I found that unplugging my D drive stopped the freezing.

Now here’s my question: How do I recover my D drive if I can’t get my computer to boot while it’s plugged in?

I can’t seem to hot swap my internal SATA drive – it’ll freeze when I plug in the data cable. I’m thinking of buying an external drive case to see if that’ll work, but if there are any other suggestions… Don’t hesitate!

My WD MyBook has just failed to be recognised by Windows Vista & XP, how can I recover files?

05 Jun

My External Western Digital Hard Drive has just failed to be recognised by both my Desktop and Laptop but I have around 200GB of data which NEEDS to be recovered as soon as possible. However, one problem is that it is not being recognised by either machine and therefore is not appearing within My Computer. What can I do to recover the files? Please no silly answers, I am having real problems here as I have a lot of important information such as University reports etc. which NEED to be recovered. I don’t have any other sources to get this information back so if it is lost forever, I’m in real trouble.

Why did my files disappear after rebooting the first time after installing Windows Vista?

03 Jun

After installing Windows Vista, I rebooted my computer after moving my files to the computer. As soon as my desktop appeared, my files showed up for one second, then they instantly disappeared. The folders that some of the files were in are completely empty except for an email file, but the folder skeleton was still intact for some reason. I recovered some of the files using a free data recovery tool, Undelete Plus. Please tell me what happened!

Installing WoW on Windows 7, help!?

31 May

I’ve installed WoW on this same computer and operating system before. I’m running as administrator. So I’m unsure what to do, the patch notes are as follows:

The installer was unable to read the file “C:\Users\Public\Documents\Blizzard Entertainment\World of Warcraft Installer\Installer Tome 2.mpq”. This error may be caused by problems with the media or drive at C:\–for example, a scratched or dirty CD-ROM/DVD-ROM, hard drive corruption, or a networking problem while downloading the installer. (The data being read was “MPQs-1\Classic common\unconditional\Data#common-2.MPQ\Character\Gnome\Female\GnomeFemale.M2″, and the error code was 8.) If this problem persists, please contact Blizzard Technical Support. (Converter::Load)

Can anyone help?
Bluekatt, that isn’t necessary, I had this problem before, on Win7, and got through it, I just can’t remember how I resolved it.

Windows XP Bluescreen. How can I backup my HD?

25 May

My Dell computer (running windows XP Home Edition) has gotten to the point where it can not boot Windows up at all. Not normally, under safe mode, or under any circumstances. I have dealt with this before, and my only known option is to reformat my hard drive. This is no problem, however I have countless amounts of priceless data on the current hard drive. My question is this: Is there a way to either recover my system, or else back up all of my information on a separate hard drive at this point? Please, any suggestions at this point are helpful. Thank you so much.
