i had this laptop for about 5 months now and the system suddenly crash, when i took it to geek squad at bestbuy they told me that it was os corruption and to repair it they said it would cost 230+tax with file backup, i do not have this kind of money on me, how do i backup my files and restore the system myself?

Purchased an external 120gig freecom h/drive for laptop 3 days ago – needed for my university work – backed up all my data and was working fine then suddenly just stopped working. the power is running through it but none of my pc’s will pick it up at all- any way at all please of rescuing my data stored on there its all my years uni work im desperate but cant afford the £100 pcworld techguys want to charge for data recovery
thanks anyways – took it back to pcworld and got a refund as there was nothing they could do for me as it was a mechanical fault. ive now asked an IT specialist to build me a more suitable hdd
