i need to retrieve files from my hard drive, but my computer wont boot up. when i turn it on it gives me the option of safe mode or the last successful configuration. non of the options work. How can i retrive my files?

My computer crashed, and a tech person recommended a hard drive enclosure USB 2.5 to recover the data. I see alot with 2.0, does it matter? Are there certain enclosures that are only for desktops or are they all the same? Thanks.

Hi,
I recently downloaded a torrent file for Puppy Linux 4.12 but noticed when I extracted the RAR folder all I got were a bunch of different files and not just one .iso file.The files I have are:
Boot file with an .msg file extension
Isolinux file that’s .bin extension
Pup_412.sfs file
VMLinuz file
INITRD File
What files do I burn to make this work in a computer where I need to recover certain data mp3’s/pictures mostly.Thank you.
P.S – I have Nero Burning Rom just so you guys know.

Ok so here is the problem… I have Vista Ultima x64… a few days ago the network icon in the taskbar started saying that I’m disconnected from a network… so my laptop does not recognize the network that I’m connected to, BUT the funny thing is that I’m still connected to the internet and my IE and IMs and everything works no problem… when I hover over the network icon in the taskbar it says:
“Connection status: unknown
No such interface supported”
I tried restoring it but I didnt have a restore point to fix the problem… so I’m kinda screwed… I tried to repair with windows disk but for some reason that doesn’t even start for me… I want to reinstall clean but it doesn’t let me connect to network to transfer files…
so…
#1 how do I fix it?
#2 I’ll be installing x86 Vista fresh, if I can’t repair my problem, is there a way to recover data after erasing my HD to do clean install? (I’ll have Vista x64 after…)

You are a new employee at a data recovery company and their tagline is “Your reputation is safe with us!” They treat all data with the strictest confidence UNLESS they find anything on the computer that involves plans for FUTURE criminal activity. So, with that being said, you are recovering data from a new customer’s computer and you find a diary and photos of a detailed murder that was committed by the customer. You do some research and see if this person in the diary is still missing or if the case is closed. Being seriously disturbed by this, you show your boss the photos and tell him the whole story of what happened and ask him what to do. The boss says to you, “What we do is recover his data and give it back to him and send him a bill.” You are appalled by this, but the boss strictly says, “Finish the work and stop snooping through the customer’s files, O.K?”
So, out of these OPTIONS, what would you do?
1) Ignore it and just go back to work
2) Quit the company and just not say anything
3) Quit the company and turn the customer into the authorities
4) Ignore what the boss said and turn the customer in anyways

So i have been having trouble with my PC today.
I try to restore and it does not work, it work’s for a bit then computer reset’s then say’s nothing to change.
So also nothing is in system info, it say’s.. Can’t Collect Information.
I also been getting Blue Screen’s.
i get this error in event log.
“The WinMgmt service failed to load the repository files under the directory %windir%\system32\wbem\repository. This can be caused by a corruption in the repository files, security settings on this directory, lack disk space, or other system resource issues like lack of memory. If this error happens every time the machine is rebooted then the administrator on this machine may need to stop WinMgmt service, delete all files and directories under this location, and restarting the WinMgmt service.”
I do not know if that is it, but please help?

Ok… so I’m in the process of attempting to recover the data that may be forever lost on my 500GB hard drive. I have the thing plugged straight into my computer with a USB/SATA adapter cable, and it finds the drive and sees files, but the filenames are all gibberish and it won’t open any of them. Can anyone help me figure out if my data is gone or if it’s still possibly recoverable???

Okay, my computer crashed last night, i’m recovering my data now using puppy linux and a new WD My book 500Gb external hard drive to back the files up.
do i need to install the hard drive to the computer, or can i just start dumping files onto it.
if i do need to install it, how do i do so?
it doesn’t work with the auto start function and i’m unsure how to use linux.
i have formatted my laptop and need to recover some of the data, what is the best free software?

ok so our computer decided to be retarded and wouldn’t start up even after multiple times of shutting it down and restarting. So, when i tried restarting it again, this message of “system recovery” came up and I clicked on the button and said ys. We have a hp pavillion home pc and 2003 microsoft XP computer. So, after we did the recovery, we realized it didnt save any of our recent files. And with more research, the handbook and microsoft help says that sytem recovery restores the computer back to only a certain time, so data and applications and etc installed AFTER the recovery cd we made will be deleted. So, am I at a total loss? because we have very important files and NEED to recover them asap. Or is there a way we can recover the recent files from microsoft office? if so please please help urgently, if you need more info/details do let me know!

My hard-drive crashed I need some help.?

So my main hard-drive took a sh*t yesterday and now I am forced to reinstall everything on my pc. I had various programs like Photoshop CS3, Adobe Premiere Pro, Auto CAD and some others which I do not have installation disks for. I also had a bunch of movies and pictures on that drive that I would like to recover. I’m not so worries about the programs but really would like the pics. I’ve pulled the drive out of the pc, installed a new one and re-installed windows. I tried reconnecting the old drive to the SATA2 port but my pc doesn’t recognize the drive, it does say that something is installed on SATA2. I spent an hour on the phone with Dell and they weren’t much help at all. Is there anyway to boot this drive back up or do I need to take it to a shop to have the data recovered?
