Basically, I have 3 external hard drives, C: D: E: which are partitioned. The “C” drive was mistakenly formatted. Once I was able to recover the PC, drive C and D are okay, however for some reason “E” is not. When I click on to open it, it asks if I want to format it. I say “NO” because I am afraid of losing the files that are still there. Is there a way for the PC to recognize the files in the “E” drive to recover them or should I take this to a PC shop?
My xls, doc files are corrupted in Office 2003. (not recongnizable format) How can i recover these files ?

Due to power failure my system shutdown. After restart when i opened one of my data file in MS Word 2003. A message box opened as ” This is Not Recognizable format”. I pressed OK button. But whole of my data files in Word & Excell were corrupted. Now when i open these files these apprear in UNREADABLE language. What should i do to recover my data both in Word & Excell.

i want to sell my laptop and i have a very personal data i want erase before selling it.. i already formated by right click on the drive and format but when i installed a recovery program it recovers all my files.
is there a way to format the drive and erase everything without the possibility to recover them agian. just to make suer no one can see them……

I’ve been having trouble with my computer lately. I have two internal hard drives, both of which are 150GB. Suddenly, the second hard drive (D:) disappeared from ‘my computer’. I looked in Computer manager, and found the drive without a letter or name. I tried right-clicking and formatting the drive, but it gives me an error of “An unexpected error has occurred. Check the system event log for more information on the error. Close the disk management console, then restart disk management or restart the computer.” I did both steps and it still gives me the same error.
I’ve also tried “Change drive letter and paths”, but it give me an error of ”
The operation failed to complete because the Disk Management console is not up-to-date. Refresh the view sing the refresh task. If the problem persists close the disk management console, then restart disk management or restart the computer.” I did both of these steps and still receive the same error.
Any way to fix this problem? I had all my games saved on that drive, as well as the save data. If I lose that data from formatting the drive then that’s fine. If there is a way to recover the data and get my hard drive back up and running do tell, otherwise I’m more worried about the hard drive.
If I’ve flattened a Paint Shop Pro image file (.psp format) and accidentally saved over the oridinal copy…?

…Is there a way for me to be able to recover that file?
I know that there are data recovery programs, but are there ones that will recover overwritten files in a specific program’s format? It’s necessary that I retrieve the original format with all my layers in tact. If not, I’m in a terrible predicament.

My situation:
A family member wanted a laptop restored to stock conditions–after backing up pertinent data, I proceeded with a quick format, OS + App reinstall… only to find out that important contact and calendar/scheduling information was not saved!!
Setup: same XP prof. OS, partitioning, programs (outlook 2003 in particular), (matching) account-name.
I’ve tried several recovery tools (Migo’s recover lost data & recover my files). The latter is unique in that it pulls up both written and overwritten files, yet I’ve been able to discover 0 .wab/.pst files that should have been in the appdata/microsoft/outlook folder… I should have at least found overwritten files. Anyone have suggestions for recovering Outlook files after formatting?
If we start Outlook configuration from scratch, will any contact data be retrieved if they enter the email address they used previously?
TIA for any and all help provided!
Additionally… does anyone know the name of the file(s) + folder where the calendar/scheduling data is stored?

Ok – I am now officially having a bad day

I was in the process of moving pics from Verizon Env Touch
512 San Disk memory card –> phone memory so I could install a larger memory card. I wasn’t thinking & touched the format button thinking I could move pics into a different order. I should have realized what it meant – I wasn’t thinking. I really thought there would be a warning if it was going to delete everything — like, move pics to phone memory first or proceeding will erase all memory card content — but no such warning. Instead, a garbage can, the worst thing to ever see start dancing around on your cell or camera, came up —
I immediately tried to cancel it, but it didn’t – it erased all 900+ pictures on my memory card, along with some videos. So of course, I am pretty devastated – baby puppy pictures & family photos that meant a lot to me. Before I recently got this new phone, I had to go into Verizon to get a software update on my old Env – after it stopped texting because of old software…Verizon’s “update” resulted in a non functioning phone, erased contacts, and all 400+ of my phone memory pictures erased — Of course no one there checked to see if my pics were all under memory card memory or even warned me a software update could do the damage they did and erase everything – nice. The 900+ pics I just erased were on the memory card at the time they erased all of the ones that were in phone memory. So, now everything is gone & I’m really upset and hoping you can help me get these pictures back!!
After my Canon camera once trashed every picture on the memory card, I started using cell phone cameras because I figured there was less risk of losing everything again. I purchased a program once online to try to recover lost PC files and it did not work – at all so obviously just because one is not free, does not mean it works.
So, PLEASE HELP me find a program or tell me about one you have used that worked for this situation!! Some programs I have read about are free, some are not. I do not know if one works – for sure, and would like to know if you know of one that does work for SD phone memory card 100%. I found some, that I listed below and a list of recovery utilities from PC World – maybe someone knows of ones that are not good and ones that are. I looked online too but am really hoping someone can find excellent user reviews for a recovery SD phone memory card or has used one that works. I don’t want to download one to use, get a virus or download one and try to use it and end up with it totally ruining the chances of me having another program recover the pictures. PLEASE HELP ME!!! At this moment I don’t have the hookup or device to get the SD card into my PC USB port. When I got the card, I don’t think there was a compatible one so I never knew what to buy but need to get one. The card came with 2 adapters — Micro Adapter and Micro to SD Adapter– that it looks like the card would go into – then the adapter into something else that goes into the USB port but I don’t know what to buy or where to buy it. It’s a 512 MB memory card – now I will be using the 8 MB so hopefully I can get one device for both cards to go into the PC USB.
So, please help me find a program to get back accidentally formatted and erased Verizon San Disk memory cards for cell phones – maybe you have done this and used one that works – or can find good reviews I cannot. Please help!! Thank YOU!!

my pc isnt working as windows xp file got corrupted.
my c drive has 13 bad sectors and all other drives work well and combined contain a lot of data which i need to recover.
my computer doesnt start because my windows xp file got corruoted and i cant reload (format pc) it due to c drive not working.
can i format the c drive myself or do i have to send it to the company as it is still under warranty ?

I have been working on an Excel file which I might have saved wrongly, and now I can’t acces my USB unit. My PC asks me if I want to format the device anytime I try to open it, but i’m afraid i might just loose my entire info. Any suggestions?
