How do i recover a file?

06 Jun

I have an excel file that’s very very important. i use it and update it almost everyday. Today, when i tried to open it, it said that there was something wrong with it (it opened but had strange characters in it). I restarted my computer and tried again. But when i got to the folder it said that the file “schedule.xls” had 0 bytes. meaning everything went *kapoof*

The data in there is very very very important. Can i still recover it?

Max points to who can help me out.

I actually have a backup in my flashdrive, but it was from a month ago…so i lost important recent data.

Please help :(

how do you recover a file after it have been sent to the recycle bin, then the bin emptied?

01 Jun

a photo file was accidently sent to the recycle bin. The recycle bin was emptied. How do you get the file back

help with file recovery please?

29 May

I had lost photos from recycling bin a few years ago and i knew that it was going to be overwritten :( but i decided to do a data recovery anyway and i actually found some of those photos, but the recovery file software only lets me preview the files and not recover them without purchasing the software and i found too many of these. Are there any software online for free with this (no demo) and also can files be totally overwritten after 2 years? thanks alot

My friend deleted everything from a text file and then saved it. Can the original data be recovered?

24 May

The ending file size is zero bytes. I thought maybe the file wouldn’t move so that the data might still be on the drive. I used ‘debug’ to dump the drive contents at the file location but the data was gone. I’ve looked at data recovery software but it looks like it is all geared toward recovering deleted files. One more wrinkle, the computer is in NC and I am in MI so I don’t have direct access to the machine. My friend is computer literate enough that I could walk her through running debug but I’m not sure how much more she will feel comfortable doing. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
I guess I should have said “saved and closed” it.

File wiping shredding software/Does it just shred written titles of files or does it shred the file itself?

23 May

This question is about “File wiping/disk wiping/deleting” software, such as “BCwipe, etc” that claim to permanently destroy deleted files. Do these programs just delete/shred the written/text titles of the files that I delete, so that they cant be recovered, or does it also destroy/shred the actual file contents itself? In other words, if somebody has an Audio MP3 music file on their pc, and they delete/wipe it with “Bcwipe”, will the mp3 file still be on their pc, or will the file itself be overwritten with random data? I kinda got the idea that if i delete a file with “Bcwipe” that there will still be remnents of iton my pc.
