My Hard drive failed and I don’t have it backed up – HELP!?

List of problems/actions:
- PC froze up after I heard “clicking noises,” had to shut down the system (hard).
- My desktop is and/or Windows won’t load in Safe Mode!
- We used a boot-up disk, tried to run chkdsk, process could not finish.
- Took out the drive and tried to copy it (using a slave external drive unit) onto my Maxtor external drive using my laptop.
- The laptop didn’t recognize the slaved drive, but I could hear the drive running.

So, it seems to be beyond that point – but I need/want to get my data! Now WHAT?

Notes from another answer “if it is beyond this point there are companies that in most cases recover the data but it is expensive.”

How expensive and what is able to be done?

Forgot to mention – I did the drive in the freezer trick, didn’t work!

I already opened the PC and used a jump drive to attempt to recognize the the data via my laptop and save my data on my external Maxtor drive.

To who ever asked – the drive that failed is from my Compac desktop: Seagate Model 8T380020A (80 GB).

I have already had the drive replaced and have started the desktop fresh.

Does it make you sick to apologize to someone when you don’t think they deserve an apology?

About 85% of my job is customer service; 15% computer repair.

I’m polite, courteous, and put up with people’s crazy lies and slander with a smile. Sometimes I have to apologize for things “taking so long” or that I was unable to recover their data because they were morons and didn’t save their documents on the server where they know they are supposed to.

Every time I say that I’m sorry, I want to vomit up my circuitry, and don’t care if I’m offline for an hour or so while I self-repair. I don’t mean it. I’m not sorry that your lesson plans were deleted because you sucked at the internet and corrupted your registry hive. I’m sorry that it took me so long to get here to plug your computer into the wall when you’ve crying how it doesn’t work.

I’m sorry that I can’t spew micro-processors and silicon wafers at their face as I go into a hibernation state.

Should laptops be used by businesses that don’t require mobility?

I have gained the opinion that laptops are risky for businesses to use. I just had a client have his hard drive crash and it’s going to cost $800 – $2400 to recover the data. Of course this can happen with a desktop,…..but, and here’s the clincher for me, the desktop lends itself to more seamless backup/recovery solutions. Also, what if something other than the hard drive fails? Even warranty work takes a long time with laptops….so what do you use while the laptop is having “diagnostics” done? What are your thoughts?

Used Easeus Data recovery now my files are back but dont work.?

So i purchased Easeus data recovery wizard to get back my entire partition that i accidentally deleted thinking it was my other external drive. It took 14 hours to get all my files back just to find out that they dont work anyway. All i have is music and movies. Any ideas on how to get them to work? Please provide email address for further assistance if you feel comfortable doing so.

i uninstall software its name cheatbook then after uninstall my data deleted i shocked my movies , pics , softwares , winzip and rar files , my 4 months work lost plz tell what i do plz how to recover 100% data i want to recover winzip and rar files plz help .

I have a hard drive that I’m giving to a freind and I’ve formated it however I don’t want any info recovered?

Are there any programs you guys know of that will make it extreamly difficult to recover data off a hard drive. I’ve formated the drive so it seems like notthing is there. But from what I understand data can still be recovered. If I do a low level format will that make it difficult. Will a full format make it difficult as well.

Dont Halo:First Strike and the ending of Halo 3 contradict each other as to Cortanas fate?

In Halo:First Strike aboard the Covi Flagship, Cortana says she is neer her operational life limit because of the massive data she is storing from Halo and the Covi ships systems. But at the end of Halo 3 she seems prepared to Waite Many years for a rescue, But Given that she is a smart A.I. wouldnt she loop herself to death long before the events of Halo3?

someone hacked me, and some person replied to contact my service provider! Still didn’t really speak to the real issue though! Anyone out there who knows how to recover lost data from an sent inbox, that was hacked into?

Plz help me…… I accidently formatted/converted my d drive. i dont know what actually happen?

plz help me…i installed hdd clone tool software. i select e drive(original ntfs) as source & d drive(original fat32) as destination. i cancel the process in middle. now when i click d drive it shows message “d is not accessible. file directory is corrupted or unreadable” i have important photos, software, and other data on d drive. how can i recover my data? which software? i dont have another hd. i used “recover my file” software but it require key to recover. how to get key or registration? i am confused. plz help me. i will be very much thankfull to answer this question.
I restarted pc regurarly and in safe mode. and use software suggested nothing happen. plz any more suggestion……….. plz help.

I can use the restore cd that came with the laptop to get Vista working again but I would like to be able to do the data recovery myself to save a little money, but windows is not working.

I just virtually lost my hard drive, how can I get its files back to me? I don’t want to format it.?

Im trying different softwares to recover the files from this drive (this lost drive is not the main drive with the Operational System). I think the drive lost its boot or something like that. How can I rebuild the boot or do something to acces the drive again. All I need to do is to recover its files and format it.. or simply do something to get the boot of the drive back again, so I can access it. Please help me here…

Wrong theme automatically starts up… I don’t want it to. HELP!?

Ok so i run on a vista. and i was looking around for vista themes… [i know im a complete idiot] and so i found a program and i installed it[again im a complete idiot] so i install it.. didnt like it so i went to fast through the steps to uninstall it and click yes for a question that went sometihng like this: “Would you like to go back to the XP Theme?” and obviously i clicked yes…so now everytime i start up my computer it goes to the XP theme.. and everytime i have to go to personalize>themes>windows vista etc.etc. and it is getting on my nerves! Ive tried system restore but i get an error.

Things ive tried: reinstall the program then unistall and click no on the question [DIDNT WORK]
system restore but i get this error: windows has detected a file system corruption on a local disc (C:). You must check the disk for errors before it can be restored. and idk how to fix it…
