How may I recover these file to viewable? Nokia N70 and Nokia N80 was used to take these photos. I have tried all the revocery software available on the net but they do not work, the erros are all similar “bad or missing header” so with photoshop and opening it with RAW just presents snow. ACDSEE just show a blank (black image).

I have a western digital 160 GB hard drive. I had it plugged up and operating and since the side of my computer tower couldnt stay on and the hard drive was too large to actually fit inside….it would always be outside the tower. More to the point….while i was using it…i had a hard glass cup on the top of my tower and it accidently fell and made impact onto the operating hard drive. Ever since then it makes a small clicking sound(indicating that its physically damaged from the impact of the cup falling on it) and isn’t accessible. In the setup screen…the drive id is recognized but the capacity of the hard drive is no longer recognized. At this point…..what can i do to retrieve the data on it as i have very many importnat files on there that i really need to recover? Answers greatly appreciated

I recently got a virus on my hard drive, so i took it out and hooked it up to my laptop to recover the data. But then I look through the drive, all the data in My Pictures, My Music, and everything in My Documents is gone. But when I right click on the drive, it says that 80 gigs of 250 are used, those 80 gigs are my data but cant find them. I have already allowed the viewing of hidden files and used the search bar but still cant find my files. Where are my files??Thanks
Virus is removed, original OS on HD is XP pro connected through a SATA-USB cable onto a windows 7 OS laptop. I can see into the hard drive fine, I can see all the program files and everything in the drive but in the USERS folder, there should be a folder that says HP_ADMINISTRATOR, thats where everything should be, but its gone

This is a two part question.

1. My hard drive is apparently physically damaged. My Vaio cannot enter safe mode, it flashes a split second of a blue screen and reboots over and over again. I tried to recover my data with a disc enclosure on two separate computers – nada. Nothing showed up, it’s like it wasn’t even in there. I even sent the thing to a friend of a friend who does IT, but he tried the sames things as I and he didn’t tell me anything I didn’t know. Are there any other things I can try before I give up hope of ever seeing my old files again?

2. What kind of hard drives will fit in a Vaio FFE660G? My previous hard drive was a 100GB 2.5 SATA Hitachi. Will any size/brand fit as long as it is a 2.5 SATA? I know my brother’s Dell has a 2.5, but it’s a slightly different shape from mine and I want to make sure I buy one that fits.

I apologize for coming off a little ignorant about computers – I was lucky enough to have smooth sailing for most of my computering life!

I recently dropped my laptop on the ground and when I try to start it up it tries to read the harddrive and gets stuck about 70% of the way thrugh (after analyzing it for 6 hours.) So I was wondering what I can do to fix the harddrive and recover the files on it?
Do I have to take it to a data management place or is there another alternative to fixing it?
Thanks for any input ahead of time.
Alright thanks for the input. I think I am just going to buy a new hardrive and get this put my current hardrives files onto it. Does anyone know of a good program that is free that I can put on CD that will allow me to back it up from my laptop. My laptop allows me to go to the setting screen so i can use the CD as a boot disk, but i wont let me go any further.

Ok, here’s the situation…I have a HP Pavillion laptop and one day, I decided to bring my computer to my friend’s house. Long story short…my friend has a magnetic matress pad and I completely forgot about this. I had my computer turned on, playing music and I sat it on the bed that has magnets in the matress pad. After about 30min, I noticed my computer started to run very slowly and the music kinda sounded like a cd skipping. All of a sudden, I see the BSOD and it says to restart my computer and then the screen went completely black. I restarted it, and my computer wouldn’t start Windows. It turns on and goes to the main HP screen but it loops continuously as if there is no hard drive. I took it to a computer shop and he was able to locate the hard drive but it appeared that everything had been wiped off. I was thinking of getting a second opinion because I have found several articles online suggesting that a magnet cannot completely erase data and that it can be recovered. Help!??

I have almost 400GB of data on one of my hard drives. I booted up with a GParted Live CD (on my laptop, by the way) and was resizing and moving the partition. It took 4 hours to re-size, then would have taken about 9 hours to move the partition over, so I left it running unattended for the majority of the process. I left the house about an hour and a half before it was supposed to finish, and everything was fine at that point. When I got back a few hours later, the laptop was off with a dead battery. Checked the power cord and it was only plugged into the adapter part-way. Must have stepped on the cord and pulled it out slightly when I left…

I booted up my computer and Windows told me to format the drive. I clicked no and instead ran “dskchk /F”. Windows fixed all the “orphaned files” and such, and now I can view the drive in My Computer. The problem is, the folder that had 400GB of data in it is now listed as a “file” of 0KB. I know the data is still on the hard drive because the free disk space still only shows 35GB free with a total capacity of 425GB. The only other folder on the disk only adds up to ~39GB. So that ~400GB is still on the disk, just can’t access it through Windows Explorer.

So my question is… How can I recover these files? I’m willing to spend money on a program if need be, but the only file recovery programs I found online say they recover “accidentally deleted” files. Will such a program also be able to recover the files lost in my situation?

I appreciate any advice anybody can provide.
Thanks,
Matt
Well I got all the files back by using a program called PC Inspector File Recovery, but because the partition on the hard drive was being moved to a different location on the disk while it died, all the files are messed up. Half of them won’t open in their respective viewing programs. I had a few movies in there too and they will play with VLC but are all random scenes from random files and parts are missing.

I’m still trying to figure out a way to somehow un-piece everything and piece it all back together in the right order. I’m sure the FBI could fix something like this in a matter of minutes.

My computer has stopped working after it was moved by kids while it was on. It just goes into an infinite loop of trying to boot up, with a beep sound every few seconds.

I phoned some PC repair people and they said it might be due to damaged hard disk.

I am worried now! Could my data be lost? These people have said they can try and recover my data. Would it be 100% efficient? If any data turns out to be irrecoverable, does it mean certain files & folders won’t appear in the directory at all? Or would the contents of those files be jumbled up (appearing like junk)? What are the tell-tale signs of data loss?

Yesterday I dropped my Ipod in the bath. It was a Ipod Classic. The actual Ipod itself was not very good but the 3500 odd songs i had on it with no back up was AMAZING. After getting it out if the bath i panicked and did everything I could think of including charging it and turning it on and off. I then learnt this makes it worst. Is there ANY way it can be fixed with the current data still preserved ?
PLEASE HELP!

I have a Seagate 500 GB/7200rpm something or other hard drive that suffered trauma when the Macbook it was in hit the ground. The drive is like 2 years old. I sent it to Data Recovery Labs and they quoted $1690 to recover the data. Surely there must be an alternative that *normal* people can afford? Any tips?
What do you mean by “freezing it”?
But can this be done if the dead computer can’t even be booted?

Hello, I have had the unfortunate experience of having my relatively new MacBook laptop crash. I heard terrible noises right before the horror of it all…a grayish blank screen containing one small file folder in the center and a flashing question mark. I have already spent 8 hours reading every computer blog including Mac’s own tech support website. I don’t want to pay the $1.000’s for professional data recovery and thought that someone might have an answer from personal experience with the same problem. Thank You!

I have new HDD. Only 4 months ago when I bought Seagate Barracuda 7200.11. Suddenly it can’t boot up. It says “Disk read error”. Before it happens, the HDD made squeaky noise, not often, but unusual, and took unusually longer time to read/write or access than normally it does. Then I used SeaTools software to check it for errors. It returned “write cache failed to write file X to disk”.
I suspect that the motor doesn’t run. If it indeed doesn’t rotate, is it possible to recover the data? Is there any cheap data recovery services in South East Asia area?
Is it possible to make it back to spin? Because, spending thousands of dollars is not that worth it.

My mother dropped her laptop from a distance of about 1.5 feet while it was on, and the hard drive was idling (probably about 3k rpm). Windows Checkdisk found about a hundred unreadable data sectors, and she’s currently unable to load Windows–the screen goes black after choosing the startup method either way.

This tells me that the boot sector was physically damaged during the impact.

Is there a reasonable chance of recovering her documents? Would any of you know of a good program to recommend for this?
