Ok, my pc used a sata hdd but i have taken it out and inserted an IDE drive. when the pc boots up it first gives me the familiar option of booting last known config, boot normally etc but any option i choose, it quickly shows the boot logo then shows a blue screen of death very quicky before restarting. Whats wrong and how can i fix it? Thanks!

On the boot menu, select ‘disable automatic restart on system failure’
next time it goes blue screen, look up the stop code to see what the problem is.
you’ll probably need an xp cd to do a system repair.

Hmmm could be a bad/failing hard drive (the ide one)
you should try and reset cmos. open the side pannel, and remove the small coin like battery for around 5 mins and resert it.
turn on the pc and see if that works.

It could be that the hard drive failed, or you can try and just wiping the the whole computer and see if that works

Could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software . This problem can be solved by uninstalling new softwares, updating device drivers and making minor configuration changes . From http://fixit.in/bluescreenofdeath.html . You can also run a free registry scan using utilities from http://re7.info
