Useful to get the syntax in emergency. But not to get good knowledge on the subject. It is better to refer the technet documentation.

This book by no means replaces the (online) documentation that oracle provides, or a more complete RMAN book.

But it shines when you want the syntax without carrying around a boat anchor of a book.

You need a working knowlege of RMAN for this book to be useful. If you purchase this to learn RMAN, you will be disappointed. If you know, or are learning to use RMAN, it is helpful.

I like it because I can pop it in my back (or shirt) pocket.

Half of the book is dedicated to syntax. The first half is a brief overview of the RMAN world.

It is a ‘Must Have’ for anyone using RMAN. But you will need other documentation in addition. I have found the Oracle supplied documentation (on CD) very good. But it is not ‘portable’.
