Confession: I ordered directly from the La Cie website. I placed my order at the end of August; received a confirmation on Sept. 7; and never received my order. They provided the worst customer service I have ever experienced. It took them weeks to respond to my email about my order. A week later they finally answered my email and promised to deliver the items the following week, but they never did. I sent them another email; no response. I finally had to look them up on the white pages (they don’t list a customer number on their website), and I was finally told the items were not in stock. Why couldn’t they have told me that earlier? I cancelled my order.
If your order through Amazon.com goes to La Cie, I would be prepared for a long wait.

I returned this hard drive because its programming would not allow me to do what I wanted. I wanted an external hard drive to back up my documents and other items I did not want to lose if my internal hard drive failed. I had to manually back up everything I tried and then I could not access it because the drive asked for a user name and password. I had not given it a user name and password. I could never get past this part of the program. This also prevented me from setting up a schedule for updating my backups. The only way I could access the backups was to go through recovery and then it said I would erase all my original documents. The company I bought it from was very good. As soon as they received it back they refunded my money.

Outstanding unit. My wife and I have never had problems with Lacie units. We have two other smaller Lacie Drives. Great value. Excellent unit for the price.
