One day it just stopped working. I have tons of travel, and family pictures and over 6,000 songs. I plug it in and I keep getting a pop up saying somthing like “error from I/O device”. I hear it spinning, and th little light flashes red to orange. I changed from 4 different USB outlets, and it still doesn’t work. If I cannot recover it myself, do you think I could take it in to a place that does computer technical stuff?

unscrew the housing of the ‘external hard drive case’ and look and see if any wires have come loose. if they have, plug them back in.
you should be able to see the hard drive and two wires coming from it one wire handles the data transfer cable, and the other is the power cable.
