But anyway. Is it sata or ide hdd?
Go to your local pc shop and ask them for external casing for laptop, and then once you have booted your pc, plug the external ’slave’ drive into the usb. The external casings are very cheap. They should be. Dont let the sales ppl talk you into buying anything expensive. All you need is just a communications device which your laptop hdd can communicate with.
Once you can see your laptop hard drive in windows, you can back up all your data.
get back to me and tell me how it went!
Slave is the correct term to use for HDD in computers. Unless your laptop can have a 2nd hard drive you might be in trouble. Normally on a standard PC there are jumpers which allow you to have a “master”, “slave’, or “cable select’. I am not overly familiar with laptop/notebook HDDs. Check your HDD for any jumpers and your laptop for a cable to connect a 2nd HDD. If you are up and running you could get a USB HDD to copy over too if your laptop will not hold 2 HDD’s.

You shouldn’t use the word “Slave” it is a racist term…otherwise, I really don’t know, sorry I cannot help. Call Geek Squad maybe?
